gifts

Posted on March 21, 2009 by wildreader

Have you ever had someone give you a gift that they didn’t acquire with the thought of giving it away? My mother always had a gift box upstairs for emergency gift giving. I usually shop for a gift for a specific person. However, the most valuable gifts I have ever received came from women that barely had enough money to put food on the table, with no extra to splurge on a roll of toilet paper. They felt the need to give me something. One took a pair of black cloth dolls with blue dresses and wide red mouths from her window sill and gave them to a friend and me. Another gifted us with a book from her very own shelf and small reddish vases with fish carved in the sides. Such generosity only comes from those with little worldly wealth. I often take my toilet seat and running water for granted. But when I look at the gifts from those women, I feel how blessed I truly am.
