Egg Retrieval

IV

The worst part about the egg retrieval was getting the IV put in. My veins are not easy to find, and the nurse was new, so she stroked my arm and hand for quite a while before she found a vein she liked. She did get the needle in on the first try. This process hasn’t made me like needles any better. They still scare me.

(Other people might find the gown gaping open in the back, displaying my butt crack, and then laying on the table with my legs strapped spread eagle, gown above my belly button, a doctor and 4 nurses looking at my lady parts getting washed with a squirt bottle to be more traumatic, but, for me, it’s the needles.)

The lady part washing is the last thing I remember before waking up, modestly covered, with a heating pad on my belly. The hubby came in shortly afterwards. The doctor retrieved 8 eggs.
