notes on nana and grandpa chuck

Posted on April 4, 2009 by wildreader

Memories

  • Seeing Nana rest her head on Grandpa’s shoulder.
  • Grandpa so proud. Stayed up when “company” was there, wouldn’t use the baby (oxygen) or snake killer (walking stick). Didn’t want to sit in the “crip” seats in church (padded seats in front for the “cripples”), but was OK with it when Nana needed to sit there (she used a walker and had her right breast removed).
  • Nana had a “booby” bear that Kass gave her in the hospital — called it that because she left a boob there.

Stories

  • Nana and Grandpa used an ironing board when they didn’t have a kitchen table to eat off of.
  • Grandpa Chuck’s parents
    • Great Grandma Dalmas was nicknamed “Sade” after Sade from the old radio show, Vic and Sade. Grandma Dalmas did some of the same things to her husband that Sade on the radio show did.
    • Her husband was nicknamed “Goat” because he got real mad whenever people teased him. The guys at work teased him all the time — got his “goat”.
    • Safeway used to have actual wicker baskets to shop with. Sade walked home with a basket one day and never returned it, when Grandpa Chuck was a boy. (I have the basket now.)
